Texas Native Indigenous Elders Talking Circle

Honoring Wisdom, Embracing Wellness

At Native Healthcare Center, we are proud to host the Texas Native Indigenous Elders Talking Circle, a sacred and supportive space where our Elders gather to share stories, offer guidance, and embrace culturally grounded practices that uplift health and well-being. This Circle is rooted in Indigenous values and guided by the 4Ms Framework of Age-Friendly Care: What Matters, Medication, Mentation, and Mobility.

Age-Friendly Health Systems aim to:

🔹Follow an essential set of evidence-based practices;
🔹Cause no harm; and
🔹Align with What Matters to the older adult and their family caregivers.

🌿
What Matters:
Listening to Elder Voices

We honor what matters most to our Elders—spirituality, family, cultural continuity, and the right to age with dignity. In each Talking Circle, Elders lead conversations on life experiences, tribal teachings, and future hopes for the next generations. These sessions ensure that all care and services align with their personal values and goals.

💊
Medication:
Traditional and Western Healing

Our Talking Circle explores the safe and respectful use of medications, including the integration of traditional remedies with Western medical care. Elders receive guidance on managing medications and are encouraged to share ancestral healing practices that have supported wellness for generations.

🧠
Mentation:
Protecting the Mind and Spirit

Mental, emotional, and spiritual health are inseparable in Native cultures. The Circle addresses challenges like memory loss, isolation, and grief through storytelling, drumming, crafts, and ceremony, strengthening cognitive health and spiritual connection.

🪶
Mobility:
Movement as Medicine

Staying active is essential for physical and cultural vitality. Our Talking Circle promotes mobility through culturally relevant activities such as Native dance, nature walks, and intergenerational movement. We encourage movement that respects each Elder’s ability and honors the body as a vessel of tradition.
